Years ago Wendy’s had an ad that is very relevant even today in many of our life situations. It showed a little old lady removing the top of the bun from her burger and asking “WHERE’S THE BEEF”? Wendy’s was making the point that many other fast food restaurants were making their patties smaller to boost profits.
Today this thought can be applied to our lives, matter of fact I think we should ask WHERE’S THE BEEF in all aspects of our lives. Here is a good for instance. When you go about your day and someone stops you and asks you to pray for them how often have you said yes I’ll be praying for you. Then you continue with your eventful and stressful day and forget about praying for that person. Ever forget? It happens, question is where is the substance in your promise to pray? There was no BEEF in what you promised, no substance.
Some years ago I picked up this habit from a brother in Christ. When someone asks me to pray for them or someone else we stop, right then and pray. Granted sometimes I pray in peculiar places at seemingly inopportune times. In this habit I found the substance I sometimes forgot.
People are looking at our lives as believers for substance, they are looking for the difference Christ makes in us, otherwise they would not ask us to pray for them!
I am a firm believer in the fact that God places people in our life path to bless us, likewise he will place us in someone else’s life path to bless them. Recently at one of our jobsites there was a lady who was looking for something she could not find. This jobsite was a rebuild of her home that had burned a few months earlier. As she searched through her garage I could sense there was something more she was searching for. In our conversation she ask if I would pray for her and her grandson. So we did! In the middle of all the controlled kayos of home construction, we prayed. What she was looking for was substance.
Christ had a word for us about substance in Luke 21:2-4 (New American Standard Bible)
2And He saw a poor widow putting in two small copper coins. 3And He said, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them; 4for they all out of their surplus put into the offering; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on." The Pharisees gave great sums, the widow revealed the substance in her life by giving all she had.
Next time you get the chance I dare you to show someone the substance in your life, show them how real Christ is in your life!
